Shelter (2010)

“SHELTER”

When you fall into an old WWII bunker that has been sealed for over 70 years you think you are trapped underground by yourself. But when strange and violent things begin to happen you find yourself wondering if you are alone afterall…

Brief

“Shelter” Is the title of a solo project I am currently working on using Epic’s “Unreal Development Kit” (available at http://www.udk.com/) The goal of the project is to make a full 3D environment that the player can move around and interact with. This environment will have no other physical creatures inhabiting it but I want to try to give the illusion that there is in fact a malevolent being stalking the player through the experience. In essence I want to create a spooky haunted environment where the player has a much more tangible enemy rather than fear the environment itself. For example in a standard haunted hour a chair may levitate across a room to attack the player in a relatively disembodied manner. But in this game the player would see dust kicked up or footprints make their way to the chair where it would be lifted up and thrown at the player, as if there was an invisible creature rather than a haunted chair.

Status

The project is still being worked on at the moment, but I have provided some further screenshots of the environment so far to give you a taste of what kind of atmosphere I am aiming for. Not that the majority of objects have yet to have a texture applied to them, this is the next big step.
