“Weatherman” (Dare 2010)

“Weatherman” (Dare to be Digital 2010)

Weatherman was a game concept I came up with for entry into the Dare to be Digital international game development competition. The concept won my team a place in the competition and we spent the next 10 weeks developing a working prototype of the game.

During these 10 weeks I worked as a full time gameplay and level designer/environment artist in a professional working environment under the mentorship of numerous industry professionals. At the end of the competition we showcased our game and thousands of public visitors were given the chance to play our game. We received fantastic feedback from the industry specialists and the general public. Dare to be DIgital has been undoubtedly the highlight of my games industry career so far.

This page consists of various different forms of media about the game and its development.

The following video is a full walkthrough of the game from start to finish. It’s about 10 minutes long so I’ll highlight some of my favourite scenes for those viewers who are somewhat time constrained.

4:37 = A puzzle that shows off all weather effects and scene changes

6:51 = The Volcano Puzzle/Platform section (extra points if you get  the Terminator reference)

7:37 = The Monkey Temple with the “Monkey King” boss

9:08 = Ending Cinematic

I’ve also included images of my favourite parts of the game along with a couple of scene transitions to show you how the game looked in its different weather conditions.

The Witch Doctor’s Hut in it’s natural temperature

The Same hut when it’s freezing

And again when it’s hot (Notice the bubbling cauldren)

A lovely waterfall, shame about the killer piranhas

No game is complete without a Volcano level

Snow, My favourite effect in the game, frozen lake is nice too!

 Those Spikes look nasty

Another Comparison, normal temperature in the Monkey Temple Ruins

Heating things up a bit

Freezing the ice, making the Monkey King drop the vital flux capacitor for your plane…

A scenic view of a far off temple made of gold!? Could this be another adventure? Only time will tell…Tally Ho!
